I have had under consideration your desputah
10.879 of the 1st August last on the subject of
the measure of protection to be accorded in
future in China to British subjects of Chinese

The proposals which you put forward are
based on the suggestion contained in the Foreign
Office Memorandum of February 4th 1928 that the
ordinary rule relating to dual nationality should
be applied in China and the četails are developec
out of the scheme now in operation in Canton and
the proposals put forward by His Majesty's Consul
General at Shanghai. The effect of your proposals
appears to be that His Majesty's Government should
now endeavour to obtain the assent of the Chinese
Authorities to the following scheme.
(1) Transient visitors,
British subjects of Chinese race who also
possess Chinese nationality, on arriving in
Chin
